Commemorative folding fan from Fukuoka, Japan. The artwork depicts a scene from the festival, which is known for its float-racing and teams of men carrying large, decorated floats called yamakasa. The fan is in the "sensu" style, which is a traditional Japanese folding fan. The style of the artwork is associated with the Nakasu-ryu (Nakasu style) tradition of the festival. The Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival has a history of over 770 years and is considered an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. This fan is made with traditional Japanese materials like bamboo and washi paper. Pre-owned but in good condition. No damages on paper. There is a tiny crack on one of the bamboo pieces but it’s not noticeable. Please see last picture. Collectible. Fan is 8.5”.
